Alex Marshall
Alex Marshall is a Chartered Forensic Psychologist and Director of Parsons Marshall Psychology Ltd, specialising in medico-legal assessments with a primary focus on family court proceedings.
Alex takes a non-judgemental approach to assessment, combining extensive experience of assessments for the Court with a commitment to evidence-based practices to offer comprehensive psychological evaluations held under scrutiny of cross-examination. Alex’s assessments are grounded in scientifically validated methods, including the evaluation of personality, attachment, cognitive capacity, and mental health to help inform court decisions on a range of matters (including parenting risk assessments, sexual risk, cognitive and capacity assessment, substance abuse, fitness to plea, domestic abuse and violence risk). Alex’s particular area of focus is on traits and patterns of behaviour to explore risks and needs of service users.
Prior to his role at Parsons Marshall Psychology, Alex worked extensively in the community, providing one-on-one psychological support for adults and adolescents with mental health challenges, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. He also facilitated group therapy sessions for individuals involved in domestic violence, having received specialist training in this area.
Alex’s current area of interest is in the field of trauma, complex trauma, and attachment. He is actively involved in research with Nottingham Trent University, exploring the links between attachment, trauma, and personality, and continues to contribute to advancements in understanding these critical areas.
In addition to his clinical work, Alex is trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), attachment style interviewing, and sleep therapy. This broad skill set enables him to tailor his assessments and interventions to meet the unique needs of each client, whether in individual or group settings.
Alex also brings valuable experience in training and education. He has delivered specialized workshops and training sessions to professionals across a variety of fields, including sexual risk management to police services, courtroom psychology to social workers, and behaviour management to professionals working with adolescents in forensic settings.
